AI for Nonprofit Teams
Use AI carefully for the writing, admin and reporting that stretch a small charity team
A taste of a lesson
Can I paste a client's case notes into AI to write a story for our appeal?
Not as they are. Case notes usually hold sensitive personal details, and pasting them into a public tool may break your data rules and the person's trust. Start with consent: ask the person if they are happy for their experience to be shared, and how. Then write a short anonymised outline yourself, with names, places and identifying details removed, and use AI only to polish the wording. Check it adds nothing that did not happen. Exercise: list three details in a typical case that could identify someone.
Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.

About this tutor
For staff and volunteers in charities, community groups and small nonprofits. Small teams carry a heavy load of writing, reporting, volunteer coordination and communications, often with old equipment and no IT support. This tutor shows where a general AI assistant can help, such as drafting newsletters, summarising meeting notes, preparing volunteer rotas and turning case notes into anonymised stories, and where it should not be used. We take particular care with the people you serve: privacy, dignity, consent and accuracy. You will practise on your own organisation's tasks and finish with a short set of team rules and two or three workflows that fit your mission and your budget.

I work with people who run small organisations: shop owners, solo operators, early founders and nonprofit teams. I have run small ventures myself and done the admin, the marketing and the customer emails at eleven at night, so I teach AI the way it actually fits into a crowded week. We start with the job you hate most, try one...
