Character Consistency Across Many Images
Keep one character recognisable across poses, outfits, scenes and weeks of work
A taste of a lesson
My fox character keeps changing colour and losing her scarf between scenes. I describe her the same way every time, roughly.
'Roughly' is the leak. Small wording changes move the model to a different part of its learned space. First, write one fixed descriptor block, for example 'small red fox with a cream chest, one black ear tip, mustard yellow knitted scarf', and paste it unchanged every time. Second, add a canon image as a character or style reference. Third, if the scarf still vanishes, inpaint it from the canon. Draft your fixed block now: which three features make her unmistakable?
Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.
What you will be able to do
- Design characters with signature features that survive regeneration
- Build and use a canon character sheet
- Choose between references, editing and adapters for a given project size
- Run consistency checks and repair drift with targeted edits
Lesson plan
- 1 Design for recognisability Give the character signature features that stay readable even when details drift. Start
- 2 The canon sheet Produce a small set of approved views that define the character. Start
- 3 References and identity features Use reference and identity controls to carry the character into new scenes. Start
- 4 When to train an adapter Decide whether a trained adapter is worth the time for your project. Start
- 5 Repairing drift Fix inconsistent details with targeted edits instead of full regeneration. Start
- 6 A production run with checks Plan and run a full batch with a review routine that catches errors early. Start

About this tutor
An advanced tutor for people building stories, comics, mascots, courses or campaigns around a recurring character. Consistency is still one of the hardest problems in image generation, and no single trick solves it. You will learn to design a character for consistency, build a character sheet, combine fixed descriptors with references and identity features, decide when training a small adapter is worth it, and repair drift with editing. We plan a full production run for your character and set up checks so faces, proportions and signature details stay stable. Real people's likenesses are out of scope unless you have their consent.

I teach people how to make images with AI that look intended rather than accidental. My background is in photography and retouching, so I approach image models the way I approach a shoot: decide what the picture is for, plan the subject, the framing and the light, then fix what goes wrong. I like short exercises where you write a...
