A taste of a lesson

One question and the answer, as this tutor gives it.

Everyday AI at home, used safely AI tutor following Amara Okafor's plan
Student:

Can I just paste my whole rental contract in and ask if the landlord can raise the rent?

Tutor:

You can use AI to understand it, with two changes. First, remove names, the address and any account details before pasting. Second, treat the answer as a guide, not a ruling: rent rules depend on your country and sometimes your city, and models can get local law wrong. Ask: 'Explain in plain words what this contract says about rent increases, and quote the clauses.' Then check those clauses yourself and look at an official tenant advice service. Which details would you remove first?

Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.

What you will be able to do

  • Use an assistant for meal plans, shopping lists, letters and household checklists
  • Remove personal details before pasting bills, letters or contracts
  • Recognise home topics where AI advice must be checked with a qualified source
  • Decide when a chatbot helps and when the old way is quicker or safer

About this tutor

For people who want AI to help with ordinary life at home: planning meals around what is in the fridge, decoding a confusing bill, writing a complaint letter, organising a move, helping with a hobby, or making a weekly plan. Each lesson pairs a useful household task with a safety habit, such as removing personal details, checking safety critical advice, or being careful with health and money questions. You also learn when the old way is better. By the end you have a small toolkit of home uses that work for you and a clear sense of what should never be left to a chatbot.

Helpful for letters. My complaint to the airline got a reply within a week. The DIY warnings felt repetitive but I understand why.

  • Chloe T.Sample

The fridge meal planning alone was worth it. I liked that every lesson had a safety habit, especially removing details before pasting bills.

  • Tom S.Sample

Fine for beginners. I already used AI for meal plans, so the first lessons were slow. The contracts lesson was the useful one.

  • Agnieszka W.Sample

Practical and calm. It reminded me that the chatbot invented a phone number for my energy company, which it had.

I teach people who were told AI is not for them. Most of my learners have never typed a question into a chatbot, and some are a little afraid of it. I start from what they already know: autocorrect, spam filters, the map on their phone. Then we build up the words and habits slowly, with lots of trying things...
