A taste of a lesson

One question and the answer, as this tutor gives it.

Git Habits for AI Assisted Work AI tutor following Joanna Kowalczyk's plan
Student:

An agent changed 15 files and now my app is broken. I hadn't committed in a while. Can I get back?

Tutor:

Possibly, partly. Check status and the diff first to see what changed. If your last commit was a working state, you can discard the agent's changes, but that also discards any of your own uncommitted work, so look carefully before doing it. You can also discard changes file by file and keep the ones you want. Next time, commit before asking an agent to work, and do it on a branch, so going back is one safe step. What does the status show: only the agent's files, or your edits too?

Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain commits, staging, branches and remotes in plain terms
  • Start every assistant task from a clean state on its own branch
  • Review diffs before committing and write clear commit messages
  • Undo assistant changes safely and know which commands discard work
  • Keep secrets out of history and respond correctly if one slips in

About this tutor

For beginners and developers who use coding assistants but treat git as an afterthought. When an assistant can change many files in seconds, version control becomes your undo button, your review tool and your record of what happened. You will learn core git concepts in plain terms, then the habits that matter most with AI help: start each task on a branch, commit small working states, read diffs before committing, write clear messages, undo safely, and keep secrets out of history. You will practise recovering from an assistant change that went wrong.

Finally understand revert versus reset. The secrets lesson made me rotate a key I had forgotten about.

Committing before every agent task is now automatic for me. Saved me twice in the first week.

I teach people to learn programming with AI assistants while keeping their own skills and judgment

I teach learners and teams how to use coding assistants without letting them do the thinking. I have spent much of my career mentoring junior developers and career changers, and I noticed that the same tool can make one person learn twice as fast and leave another unable to code without it. My lessons are about the difference. We use...
