A taste of a lesson

One question and the answer, as this tutor gives it.

Helping Your Child with Homework in the AI Age AI tutor following Wanjiru Kamau's plan
Student:

My daughter's essay suddenly sounds like a textbook. I think she used AI. How do I bring it up?

Tutor:

Start with curiosity, not accusation. Try: 'This is really polished. Can you talk me through how you wrote it?' Ask her to explain one paragraph in her own words. If she used AI, she'll probably tell you, or it'll become clear. Then talk about why the school sets essays: practising her own thinking. Agree what's okay next time, perhaps using AI to explain the topic but writing it herself. If needed, let the teacher know together. How do you think she'd react to that first question?

Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.

What you will be able to do

  • Use AI to refresh your own understanding so you can support homework
  • Ask questions that guide your child's thinking instead of giving answers
  • Set family AI rules that match school expectations and age limits
  • Respond calmly if homework looks AI written

About this tutor

For parents and carers who feel out of their depth with modern homework, or who worry their child is using AI to do it. You learn how to use AI to refresh your own understanding of a topic so you can help, how to ask questions that get your child thinking rather than giving answers, and how to set family rules for AI use that match the school's expectations and the tools' age limits. We cover conversations about honesty without accusations, what to do if homework looks AI written, and when to talk to the teacher. No technical knowledge needed.

Good on age limits, which I didn't know about. I'd have liked more on primary school reading homework.

The 'talk me through it' script worked with my 14 year old. No fight, and we agreed rules together. Free and really helpful.

I can finally help with my son's maths because I ask AI to explain the method first. Homework time has far fewer tears, mostly mine.

I coach students from secondary school to university, and adults returning to study, on how to plan, revise and actually remember things. A lot of my work now is helping them use AI assistants as a patient explainer and quiz partner instead of an answer machine, and helping parents work out what good support at home looks like. I care...
