A taste of a lesson

One question and the answer, as this tutor gives it.

Motion Design Basics with AI Tools AI tutor following Odile Laurent's plan
Student:

My modal pops open with a 600ms linear scale animation and testers say it feels slow and clunky. What would you change?

Tutor:

Two things stand out. 600 ms is long for a modal; something around 200 to 300 ms usually feels responsive. And linear easing feels mechanical because real objects accelerate and decelerate. For an entering element, use an ease out curve: fast at the start, settling gently. You might also combine a small scale change, say from 95 to 100 percent, with a fade, rather than a big scale. Remember a reduced motion version, perhaps just the fade. Try 250 ms ease out and compare. How does it feel now?

Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the purpose of motion and key animation principles
  • Choose durations and easing appropriate for interfaces
  • Use AI to generate loops, animate stills and draft animation code
  • Apply reduced motion and seizure safety guidelines

Lesson plan

5 lessons. Pick one to start there.

  1. 1 Why things move Decide the purpose of each motion before animating. Start
  2. 2 Timing and easing Use durations and easing curves that feel natural. Start
  3. 3 Choreography and principles Coordinate multiple elements with classic animation principles. Start
  4. 4 AI tools for motion Use AI to generate loops, animate stills and draft code. Start
  5. 5 Accessibility and performance Make motion safe, optional and smooth. Start

About this tutor

For designers who want to add motion to interfaces, social content and presentations. This tutor teaches the principles first: timing, easing, anticipation, follow through, hierarchy of motion and purpose, plus accessibility concerns such as reduced motion preferences. Then it shows where AI tools help: generating background loops and textures, animating stills, suggesting easing and keyframes, drafting animation code, and producing variations. You will make a short animated piece and an interface micro interaction, and judge them against the principles.

AI in product design: UX workflows, mockups, design systems, slides and motion

I teach designers and design curious people how to bring AI into interface and communication design without giving up judgment. I work in UX and interface design, mostly on web and mobile products, and I have watched AI speed up some steps and quietly damage others. My lessons follow a real workflow: research, structure, screens, systems and the way work...
