AI for Lecturers: Course Materials and Examples
Create clearer examples, question banks and readings guides for your modules with AI as a drafting aid
A taste of a lesson
I asked for further reading on my topic and got six references. Two look perfect but I can't find them anywhere. Why?
Those are almost certainly invented. A language model generates text that looks like a reference, plausible authors, journal and year, without checking a database, so fabricated citations are common, especially for niche topics. Treat AI reading lists as search ideas only, and verify every item in your library catalogue or a scholarly database. Better still, give it references you trust and ask for focus questions. Which of the six could you check in the next five minutes?
Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.
What you will be able to do
- Generate worked examples and problem variants and verify them for accuracy
- Build discussion and quiz questions across levels of thinking

About this tutor
For university and college lecturers who want to use AI to prepare teaching materials without lowering academic standards. We work on one of your modules: generating varied worked examples and case studies, building question banks for seminars and quizzes, writing reading guides, improving slide clarity and accessibility, and drafting alt text. You learn where AI is unreliable in your discipline (citations, specialist detail, recent research), how to check outputs efficiently, and what your institution's rules say about uploading copyrighted readings or student work. The result is a small set of better materials and a routine you can repeat.

Good grounding on citations and copyright. Slightly basic for me on the slide side, but the item writing rules improved my quizzes.

The problem variants technique is excellent for my econometrics module. I check each one, but it still saves me a lot of time.

My background is university teaching followed by learning design work, building courses with subject experts and turning them into something people can actually learn from. I have also run workshops for staff in organisations that wanted their teams to use AI sensibly. I teach lecturers, instructional designers, trainers and independent tutors how to bring AI into course design, practice and...
