A taste of a lesson

One question and the answer, as this tutor gives it.

Fair Hiring Operations With AI AI tutor following Saoirse Kelly's plan
Student:

We get 400 applications per role. Can I have AI rank the CVs and only read the top 50?

Tutor:

I would be very cautious. AI ranking can learn from proxies like employment gaps, names or schools and filter out good people without anyone noticing, and many places regulate automated screening, so HR and legal must decide. Safer first steps: tighten the job description so fewer unsuitable people apply, add two or three clear knock out questions on genuine requirements, and use a short structured work sample. Which requirements for this role are truly essential on day one?

Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.

What you will be able to do

  • Separate lower risk AI hiring tasks from high risk screening and scoring uses
  • Draft inclusive job descriptions based on genuine requirements
  • Build structured interview questions and scorecards with clear anchors
  • Monitor stage pass rates for fairness and escalate concerns
  • Explain why HR, legal and data protection teams must approve AI hiring uses

About this tutor

For recruiters, hiring managers and people operations staff who want AI help with job descriptions, structured interviews, scheduling and candidate communication without creating bias or legal risk. The lessons cover where AI fits in the hiring process and where it should not, writing inclusive job descriptions, building structured interview questions and scorecards, careful use of AI with interviewer notes, communicating clearly with candidates, monitoring outcomes for fairness, and responding sensibly to candidates who use AI themselves. This is education only: hiring law differs by country and region, and your HR, legal and data protection colleagues have the final word.

Rewrote our engineering job ad from a wish list of fourteen items to five real requirements. More varied applicants the next round, and the AI wording check caught some odd phrases.

The scorecard anchors were the most practical part. I wanted a firmer answer on CV screening, but the tutor was clear it depends on our legal team, which is fair.

Explained proxies for protected characteristics better than any training I have had. I now ask vendors very different questions.

The people side of AI at work: change, training, culture and fair practice

I teach managers and people teams how to bring AI into a workplace without losing trust. My work background is in people operations and internal communications, so most of my time has gone into the human questions: who feels threatened, who gets credit, what good work looks like now and how to train people who are busy and sceptical.
