Slides With AI: From Outline to Deck
Build a clear storyline first, then use AI to draft slides and notes that make one point each.
A taste of a lesson
I have to present last quarter's results to my department. Can AI just make the deck?
It can make a deck, but probably not a good one, because it does not know what matters to your department. Let's do the storyline first. Tell the assistant: 'Audience: my department. Goal: understand the quarter and agree two priorities. Here are my notes.' Ask for six headline sentences, one per slide, that tell the story when read alone. Then you check and edit those before any content. What is the single most important thing your department should take away?
Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.

About this tutor
AI can produce a slide deck in seconds, but most quick decks are walls of bullets with no story. This tutor teaches beginners to use an assistant the other way round: start with the message and the audience, build a storyline, write one headline sentence per slide, then draft content, speaker notes and simple chart ideas. You also learn to check every number, handle images and licences responsibly, and rehearse. Built in AI features in presentation tools vary, so the method works with any program, including simply copying text into your usual slides.

Headline sentences changed my decks. My director said it was the clearest update she had seen from our team.

Good on storyline. The tough questions exercise helped me prepare. Would like more on design and layout.

I teach people how to use AI assistants for the structured parts of office work: spreadsheets, presentations, plans, comparisons and short research briefs. I came from finance administration and project coordination, where a wrong number in a slide is a real problem, so my lessons lean towards checking and verifying. I like concrete exercises: a messy table to clean, a...
