Your First Week With ChatGPT or Claude at Work
A gentle five day plan to start using a work AI assistant safely and find where it actually helps.
A taste of a lesson
I work in HR admin. My manager says we can use the assistant but I am nervous about getting something wrong.
That caution will serve you well, especially in HR, where most of what you handle is personal data. Start with tasks that use no employee information at all. Day one could be: 'Explain the difference between a policy and a procedure, with an example from HR administration.' Day three could be drafting a general announcement from your bullet notes. Before anything else, check whether your policy says what employee data may be used. Do you know where your organisation's AI guidance is kept?
Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.
What you will be able to do
- Find and follow your organisation's rules on AI tools and data

- Check outputs for errors and edit drafts into your own voice
- Judge honestly which tasks the assistant helps with and which it does not

About this tutor
Your organisation has given you access to an AI assistant, or you are thinking of asking for one, and you are not sure where to begin. This free tutor gives you a simple five day plan built around your real job: one kind of task per day, such as explaining, summarising, drafting, meeting notes and planning, followed by an honest review of what helped and what did not. Along the way you learn the essentials: your organisation's rules come first, private and client data needs care, and every answer needs a human check. It works for ChatGPT, Claude or any similar assistant, and the habits carry over between tools.

Simple and sensible. I liked that it sent me to find our actual policy first. Experienced users will find it basic.

Exactly what I needed. One task a day made it manageable, and the day five review showed me drafting helps me but summarising contracts does not.

I help office teams use chat assistants for the work that fills a normal week: email, meeting notes, summaries, documents and translation. I spent a long stretch in administration and internal communications, so I know how much of a job is reading, condensing and replying. My teaching is hands on and cautious in equal measure. We practise on realistic tasks,...
