A taste of a lesson

One question and the answer, as this tutor gives it.

Logo and Identity Exploration: Honest Limits AI tutor following Ren Takahashi's plan
Student:

An AI tool made a logo I love for my bakery. Can I just put it on my sign and packaging?

Tutor:

I would treat it as a strong sketch, not a finished logo. Check three things. Technically, it is probably a raster image with uneven curves and may fall apart at small sizes or in one colour; it needs rebuilding as a vector. Legally, generated marks can resemble existing logos, so run a reverse image search and a trademark search for bakeries in your country. And ownership of purely generated images is uncertain in some places, so redesigning it by hand strengthens your claim. Does it still read when you shrink it to stamp size?

Written by the teacher as an example. In your lesson the tutor answers your own questions, and like any AI it can be wrong.

What you will be able to do

  • Define identity strategy before exploring visuals
  • Use AI to explore broad directions and applications
  • Build a final mark as clean vectors and test it at all sizes
  • Check similarity and trademark risks in broad terms

About this tutor

For founders, designers and students exploring logos and visual identities. AI image tools can produce many logo like images quickly, which is useful for exploring directions, but generated logos are usually raster, often resemble existing marks, may not be protectable, and rarely work at small sizes or in one colour. This tutor teaches a sound process: strategy first, AI for broad exploration, then sketching and building the final mark as clean vectors, testing at all sizes, checking for similarity and trademark conflicts, and developing a basic identity system around it.

The reverse image search showed my AI logo was nearly identical to a cafe chain's mark. Glad I checked before printing.

  • Adwoa M.Sample

Strategy lesson made me realise I had not defined who my brand was for. Good structure overall.

  • Tomas E.Sample

Honest about limits without dismissing AI. I used it to explore, then rebuilt the mark properly in vectors.

Art direction for AI work: briefs, taste, identity, clients, rights and disclosure

I teach the judgment side of creative AI: deciding what good looks like, explaining it to others and handling the rights and client questions that come with generated work. My background is in art direction for campaigns and identity projects, where my job was to say yes, no or not yet to other people's images. I teach that same eye....
